The Ghanaian joined Chelsea from Porto in September 2013 for a fee in the region of £3.5million.

The previous season he had made 17 appearances for Porto as they won the Primeira Liga. He also made 3 appearances in the Portuguese Cup, including the final, which Porto also won.

Following his move to Chelsea he immediately joined Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem where Atsu played 30 games and scored 5 goals as Vitesse finished sixth in the Eredivisie.

This season he made 13 appearances for Everton, but only made one Premier League start, with the majority of his appearances coming in the UEFA Europa League.

He also made six appearances for Ghana, scoring twice in the African Cup of Nations, losing in the final to the Ivory Coast.

During that tournament Atsu picked up two individual awards for both the Best Goal of the Tournament and Best Player.

On 29th May 2015 it was announced that he would join AFC Bournemouth on a season long loan deal.

However his move to the south coast was ruined with numerous injuries.

During pre-season he struggled with a back problem, whilst niggling injuries limited him to just two appearances in the League Cup, with his last appearance coming on 22nd September 2015.

His most recent injury was a stress fracture on his shin which saw him return to Chelsea for treatment.

He did return to training with AFC Bournemouth, but had not been selected as the Cherries were keen to prevent no recurrence of the injury.

On 1st January 2016 his loan was ended early.
