As of January 2014, 22 year old right back Smith, has represented England at Under 21's level on eleven occasions and was previously signed by Eddie Howe on loan during his first stint at the club.

Smith made the move to Dean Court from Tottenham in September 2010 on a youth loan and went on to make 42 appearances for the Cherries that season.

AFC Bournemouth reached the League One play-offs that season, with Smith's final game for the Cherries coming at Huddersfield as Lee Bradbury's side were knocked out on penalties.

After his loan spell at Dean Court had ended he returned to parent club Tottenham, before joining Franchise on loan for five months making 22 appearances. Later that season he made his first step into the Championship with three appearances for Leeds United during a short term loan.

He ended the season making his Premier League debut against Fulham as a second half substitute.

The 2012/13 campaign started with Tottenham, with Smith making his first start for Spurs in the League Cup victory over Carlisle, however a month later he joined Millwall for another full season loan spell in the Championship, making 28 appearances.

This season he made ten appearances for Championship side Derby County but after previously agreeing a full season loan, his contract was terminated by mutual consent on 30th November, enabling the Cherries to make a permanent bid for the popular right back.

In January 2014, Smith signed a three and a half year contract at Dean Court.
