Surman enjoyed a half season loan spell at Dean Court in 2005 when he made 28 appearances, scoring 6 goals whilst on loan from Southampton.

In 2007 he made his debut for England Under 21's and went on to make four appearances.

He went on to leave Southampton in 2009, signing for Wolves for 1.2million. He made 9 appearances before leaving for Norwich twelve months later.

In 2012 he was approached to play for South Africa, however he turned down the chance to play for the country of his birth.

Since making the move to Carrow Road he has made 56 appearances, including 29 in the Premier League, but hasn't featured in the league since September and he has only made one appearance in 2013 which was the FA Cup upset against Luton in January.

He joined the Cherries on a full season loan in July 2013 and enjoyed the full Championship campaign before returning to his parent club following their relegation from the Premier League.

However after just one appearance in the Championship with Norwich the two clubs agreed a permanent deal which saw Surman return to Dean Court for a third spell.
