He scored 144 goals in 223 appearances, most famously scoring 42 times during the Cherries promotion season from Division Four in 1971 and later that year scoring nine goals against Margate, which still stands as an FA Cup record for the number of goals scored in a single game by one player.

In July 2013, AFC Bournemouth named the new temporary south stand after Ted Mac, with the stands first game coming against nine time European champions Real Madrid.
