After being linked with the Cherries on numerous occasions while both Lee Bradbury and Paul Groves were in charge of the team, Eddie Howe completed the signing in January 2013.

A bid of around £500,000 was accepted by Swindon, who were in the midst of some financial insecurities and a takeover bid.

The offer was considerably less than the Cherries had previously offered Swindon during failed transfer attempts.

Ritchie's former club Portsmouth received around £40,000 from a sell on clause, from when he made the move from Portsmouth to Swindon permanently in January 2011.

The winger had three spells with Swindon joining the club on loan in February 2010 making four substitute appearances during a one month spell, he later re-joined the club in October that year making 17 appearances in a three month spell before he signed permanently for Swindon.

He went on to make a further 108 appearances and overall scored 28 goals and helped the side to promotion from League Two.

During his spell with AFC Bournemouth he won promotion from League One in 2013 and played a key role in the club winning the Football League Championship in 2015.

He would go on to impress in the Premier League and break through into the full Scotland squad, but in 2016 he would go on to join Championship side Newcastle United for £12million.
