Jermain Defoe joined the Cherries on loan from West Ham United in October 2000.

He went on to score an incredible 19 goals in 30 league and FA Cup appearances. Breaking the post war record for goals scored in consecutive games (11 goals in 10 games). Although this record was later disputed.

Defoe's goals lifted AFC Bournemouth to within touching distance of the Division Two play-offs, however the Cherries missed out on the final day.

He returned to his parent club, where he spent the next four years, scoring 40 goals in just over 100 appearances.

He would go on to play for Tottenham Hotspur (twice), scoring 143 times across his two spells, he has also scored 17 times for Portsmouth, 11 times for MLS side Toronto and 37 times for Sunderland.

Defoe has also represented England 57 times, scoring 20 goals.

On 29th June 2017 he sensationally returned to Dean Court on a free transfer from Sunderland.
