Cherries unable to hault Man City's record run

Manchester City

AFC Bournemouth

Etihad Stadium

23rd December 2017, 3pm

Attendance: 54,720

Referee:

AFC Bournemouth travelled to Manchester to face run away Premier League leaders Manchester City just two days before Christmas.

The Cherries had gone into the game without a victory in seven outings in all competitions, including consecutive defeats to Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

In contrast, Manchester City had won their last 16 consecutive Premier League games and haven't lost in the last 8 months.

To make the trip even harder for AFC Bournemouth they were without captain Simon Francis, Charlie Daniels, Harry Arter, Joshua King and Jermain Defoe through injury.

With such limited options defensively, youngster Jack Simpson was handed his Premier League debut alongside Steve Cook and Nathan Ake.

In attack Junior Stanislas supported Callum Wilson, who returned to the side following an injection to his knee ahead of the Liverpool game.

Stanislas would only last 12 minutes however before he was added to the injury list with a hamstring pull.

Despite Manchester City dominating possession it took almost half an hour for the home side to break the deadlock.

Sergio AgŁero beating Asmir Begovic after some needless, overplaying at the back.

Predictably Raheem Sterling got his customary goal just after half time, whilst AgŁero scored his second with ten minutes remaining.

Substitute Danilo made it 4-0 before the end.

table...

City had the ball most of the time, Bournemouth didn't, couldn't get it and when they did, couldn't do much with it.
One positive, we don't play ' em again this season : )
Let's all enjoy Christmas. That is all.

red_house...

Insipid defeatist display...Begovic was obviously told to time waste from 1 min 30 seconds and still carried on even when 2 down.

I loved the way the flashing display kept reminding us how thoroughly crap we were...one of their players almost equalled our team total amount of passes in the first half...

As predicted bottom three...ill leave druss to work out the current form.

Garbo...

....in the past two seasons in the PL we have had bad patches when all think that we are doomed!...this is no different, we wil, turn it around I am sure....just reaching the midway point and the closeness of the bottom ten clubs is still tight...keep the faith

Hault? Should read Halt! City played us off the park. Hope we can add an extra dimension to our game from this experience. Glad we don't have to play them again.
