Cherries Back To Winning Ways?

AFC Bournemouth
Newcastle United

Dean Court

24th February 2018

After the Cherries visit to Huddersfield, which brought to an end the unbeaten run and then a break away to Portugal while the FA Cup ties took place. AFCB are back on home soil this Saturday against Newcastle United. Can we get back onto a winning run?

In the January transfer window Newcastle brought in three players on loan. Kenedy a young Brazilian and left sided player who can play on the wing or as a left wing back, came from Chelsea. Slovakia International goalkeeper Martin Dubravka from Sparta Prague. He had an impressive debut in his only game for Newcastle so far, when he kept a clean sheet in the victory over Manchester United. Striker Islam Slimani joined from Leicester City.

Following the Cherries game up at Newcastle in November, Newcastle United were in 11th place on 14 points after 11 games. After the same number of games AFCB were 4 points behind Newcastle United in 16th place. Since then in the rest of November, Newcastle lost away 4-1 at Manchester United, lost at home 0-3 against Watford and then drew 2-2 at West Brom. In December they lost four games on the trot against Chelsea, Leicester City, Everton and Arsenal. Then beat West Ham away and lost at home against Manchester City, finishing the month with a draw at home against Brighton. Newcastle United started the new year with a 0-1 win at Stoke City. They then drew away at Swansea, lost at Manchester City and drew at home with Burnley. So far in February they drew at Crystal Palace, then in their last home game beat Manchester United by the only goal of the game which came from Matt Ritchie for his first in the Premier League for Newcastle.. Going into this weekend`s game, AFCB are 10th in the table on 31 points, 3 more points than 13th placed Newcastle United after 27 games.

AFC Bournemouth Team News:

There has been no news of any new injuries, so Eddie has a strong squad to pick from following our heavy defeat at Huddersfield. Probably too early for Jermain Defoe to return, but he has an impressive scoring record against Newcastle and is back in training.

Player to watch: Ryan Fraser

At home will go for Ryan Fraser, who hopefully will be back out on the wing where he has caused opposition defences problems.

Newcastle United Team News:

Islam Slimani hasn`t played since his loan move because of a thigh problem, but might just make the squad for Saturday. Ciaran Clark has been out with a knee injury. Probably not much change from their team against Manchester United.

Player to watch: Matt Ritchie

There were some impressive performances in their last game against Manchester United. Martin Dubravka their new goalkeeper had a great game, also Jonjo Shelvey had a MOM performance. The scorer of the goal against Man U and his first Premier League goal for Newcastle, Matt Ritchie, has 5 assists this season so far. This will be his first visit back to Dean Court in a Newcastle shirt, so is my player to watch.
