New Year - New Push

Brighton & Hove Albion
AFC Bournemouth

1st January 2018

On Sky

First visit to Brighton`s Falmer Stadium since April 2015 in the Championship, as we gradually edged nearer to the Premier League. This time we meet them at their place for the first time in the Premier League. This is the first game for both clubs in 2018. Hopefully it will be the start for the Cherries to continue to push away from the relegation zone, which they started Saturday winning against Everton.

After their visit to Dean Court back in September, Brighton were 14th in the table after playing 5 games and on 4 points. AFCB were in 19th position with 3 points. Since the Dean Court defeat Brighton won their next game at home, beating Newcastle 1-0 (the team they played on Saturday).

From then they had some reasonable results up until the start of December. Brighton won 2, drew 4, and lost 2. December wasn`t a very good month for Brighton and they lost the first three games in a row, heaviest defeat at home to Liverpool 1-5. Then they had two home games, the first 0-0 draw with Burnley and then a 1-0 win against Watford. This was followed by a 2-0 away defeat to Chelsea. The latest game against Newcastle ended 0-0. Now after 21 games, Brighton are 12th in the table on 22 points. The Cherries move out of a relegation spot and up to 14th with 20 points. Crystal Palace play tomorrow and a win would put them above us.

Brighton & Hove Albion Team News:

Not heard of any injuries so they have a strong squad to pick from.

Player to watch: Pascal Gross

The German midfield player Pascal Gross, looked useful in the game at Dean Court and supplied the cross for Solly March to score. He has scored 4 goals and has 5 assists this season so far.

AFC Bournemouth Team News:

Josh King the latest casualty and will miss the Brighton game and a few other games as well. Good to see Charlie Daniels and Harry Arter back on the bench. Between Afobe and Mousset now who takes King`s place, unless Eddie changes things.

Player to watch: Ryan Fraser

Ryan Fraser, a player that is on fire at the moment and can terrorise defences with his speed. Good at finishing chances as well and expect something to happen every time he gets the ball.

Match Facts & Stats

The Cherries have had a good record at Falmer in their last three visits. Winning on their last visit 0-2 with goals from Kermorgant and Wilson. In our first encounter at Dean Court in the PL, it was the Cherries first win of the season. In league games played over the years at Brighton the Cherries have Won 14, Drawn 11, Lost 25. In all competitions, the Cherries have Won 41, Drawn 28 and Lost 36.
