Last year`s Champions Visit Dean Court
28th October 2017
Tuesday night AFC Bournemouth (AFCB) moved into the Quarter Finals of the League Cup with a 3-1 victory over Championship side Middlesbrough with a number of changes from the team that played in the Premier League victory up at Stoke. The Cherries are back on home soil again on Saturday, this time in the league to play last year`s Premier League Champions Chelsea, who also qualified for the Quarter Finals after beating Everton at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
With our form improving recently and Chelsea`s a bit up and down it could be a good time to play them. In their last home game against Watford, the score didn`t tell the full story and Chelsea could so easily have seen the 4-2 score reversed against them. Previous to this in their away game, Chelsea were beaten by bottom club Crystal Palace who recorded their first points of the season. Last season Chelsea after 38 games had Won 30, Drawn 3 and Lost 5. This season after 9 games, they have Won 5, Drawn 1 and Lost 3. Away from home they have Won 3, Drawn 0 and Lost 1. At Stamford Bridge they have Won 2, Drawn 1, and Lost 2. Away from home the wins were against Spurs (August), Leicester and Stoke (September), the defeat at Palace (October). At home the wins were against Everton (August) and Watford (October), the draw was against Arsenal (September) and defeats Burnley (August) and Manchester City (September).
Chelsea made a number of signings in the Summer for a total of around £200 million, including from Real Madrid, striker Alvaro Morata (£70 m) to replace Diego Costa up front. Tiemoue Bakayoko the midfield player (£40 m) from Monaco, Danny Drinkwater another midfield player from Leicester (£35 m), Antonio Rudger the German International defender from Roma (£34 m), Davide Zappacosta the right-back from Torino (£23 m). Goalkeeper Willy Caballero (Free) from Manchester C to replace Asmir Begovic who moved to the Cherries along with Nathan Ake.
AFC Bournemouth Team News:
No news yet on any injuries sustained in the game on Tuesday night, Ryan Fraser limped off after being substituted, he had only just returned from injury. Jermain Defoe will probably still be missing, but hopefully after his illness last weekend Josh King will be available for selection. Brad Smith and Tyrone Mings will still be missing. Has Jack Simpson done enough to get into the squad for Saturday?
Player to watch: Callum Wilson
Callum Wilson after his 90 minutes against Middlesbrough and looking sharp, we could do with that form again and hope he can get another goal against Chelsea.
Chelsea Team News:
After his move from Leicester, due to injuries Danny Drinkwater had to wait until Wednesday night to make his debut in the home game against Everton in the League Cup. So he will be available for selection again. The other two Chelsea players out through injury Victor Moses and N`Golo Kante a former Leicester player and one they badly missed when he signed for Chelsea will both be missing on Saturday.
Player to watch: Alvaro Morata
Antonio Conte`s number one choice as striker in place of Costa this season is Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid, a strong good all round player who has scored 6 Premier League goals this season including a hat-trick away at Stoke City, also two assists.
