Important Game For Both Sides

Stoke City
AFC Bournemouth

Saturday 21st October 2017

After a narrow one goal defeat against Spurs, the Cherries travel away again this time to the Potteries to play Stoke City. They will meet a Stoke side still smarting from a 7-2 thrashing away against Manchester City. Stoke have done better at home so far. It will also be Asmir Begovich`s first visit as an AFC Bournemouth (AFCB) goalkeeper to his old club where he played for five years until he left for Chelsea in July 2015, he signed for Stoke City when our old player and former manager Tony Pulis (now manager at WBA) was in charge.

Mark Hughes has been at Stoke City just over four years now, in his first season 2013-14 they finished in 9th spot with 50 points. 2014-15 they also finished 9th but with 4 points more on 54 points. 2015-16 they finished again in 9th spot on 51 points. 2016-17 they finished in 13th spot on 44 points, the Cherries had 9th spot this time!

In the Summer Mark Hughes made a number of signings, among those demanding a fee are Austrian centre-half Kevin Wimmer from Spurs for £18 million, Dutch defender Bruno Martins Indi from Porto for £7 million, he was on loan last season at Stoke. 18-year-old left back Josh Tymon from Hull City for an undisclosed fee. Among those leaving Stoke City are long serving Jonathan Walters who moves to Burnley and Joselu to Newcastle.

This season Stoke have had some good results at home. Beaten both Arsenal and Southampton, drew with Manchester United. The only home defeat was 0-4 against last season`s Champions Chelsea. On their away trips, the Potters (Stoke) have not fared so well, drew at West Brom, lost at Everton, Newcastle and most recently Manchester City. Stoke City sit in 17th spot with 8 points, 4 points more than 19th placed AFCB.

Stoke City Team News:

Joe Allen missed the Manchester City game due to concussion but could be back available for Saturday. Centre-half and captain Ryan Shawcross is out with a back injury.

Player to watch: Mame Biram Diouf

Mame Biram Diouf, fast forward who has scored in his last two games, home to Saints and scored one of the two Stoke goals in the hammering away against Manchester City. Old war horse Peter Crouch could be another danger (especially headers) if he starts or comes off the bench.

AFC Bournemouth Team News:

Ryan Fraser could be a possible return to the Cherries squad for this game. Callum Wilson continues his return to match fitness with a hat-trick for the Under 21`s. Be interesting if Eddie decides to start with both Defoe and Ibe as they seem to be linking well as shown against Brighton and lately Spurs.

Player to watch: Joshua King

All eyes will be on our strikers and hope whoever starts, be it King/Defoe, they start getting their scoring form back as they have both only scored once this season so far. Because we need to start picking up points.
