Cherries return to Pompey on Sky

AFC Bournemouth travel to League One neighbours Portsmouth in the Football League Trophy this (Tuesday) evening.

Portsmouth hadn't hosted the Cherries in a competitive fixture at Fratton Park since an FA Cup fixture in January 1991 and the last time the two sides met in the league was the old division two during the 1989/90 season.

But the Cherries made the trip along the south coast on Saturday for a 1-1 draw on the opening day of the League One season and are now return just three weeks later with the fixture live on Sky Sports.

Lee Bradbury, who played for both teams before managing the Cherries will be a guest in the Sky Sports studio.

Vital Quotes:

AFC Bournemouth midfielder Richard Hughes spent nine years with Portsmouth and he told the Daily Echo...

"It would be brilliant to play at Fratton Park. I didn`t think I would be able to this season but there could be an opportunity to do that. But, regardless of where you play or who you play, winning is the most important thing."

Portsmouth Team News:

Jordan Obita was sent off for violent conduct during Pompey's 1-0 home defeat by Oldham, so will miss the game through suspension.

Meanwhile Kevin Long returns after he himself served a suspension against Oldham.

Josh Thompson could be set to make his debut after his deadline day move but midfielder Lee Williamson, who was reportedly a target for the Cherries this summer, is a doubt with a hamstring injury.

Player to watch: Izale McLeod

Former Franchise FC player Izale McLeod scored on his Portsmouth debut against the Cherries, but has failed to find the scoresheet since.

AFC Bournemouth Team News:

AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves is expected to make as many changes as the rules allow ahead of the League Trophy fixture.

With a large squad, Groves could give players who have seen their match time limited a run out.

Harry Arter is available following his suspension for his red card against Preston.

Player to watch: Richard Hughes

The midfielder could be set to return to Fratton Park for the first time since he left the club in June 2002.

The Scottish midfielder made 154 appearances for the Cherries before spending the next 9 years at Fratton Park, playing 165 games.
