Seems like, well 40 years ago.

I was working in Poole Park at the time, but managed to blag an entire week off work due to being snowed in on Purbeck.

Which I was.
Sort of.

I could still walk to the pub in Corfe though.

I have never been as cold, before or since, than during that cold spell back then.

Unforgettable spell of weather, this.
Had been cold for several days with some snowfall, then on the night of the 18/19th.... Boom.

I remember listening to the afternoon's football (then on Radio 2 long wave) and it was interrupted by an "Attention all shipping" gale warning for the Channel sea areas "easterly storm force 10, soon" and warning of blizzards.

What followed was the Great West Country blizzard. Not seen anything like it since. Lived in Colehill back then and we couldnt go anywhere for 2-3 days.

Just a month later AFCB drew at home to Northampton. I have the attendance as 2,221.

School was cancelled - made some good coin shovelling snow and delivering milk , the milk floats couldn't get out for days - can't remember the name of the milk company on the Wimborne road

That Northampton game ended 1-1 from memory - most of the crowds that year were between 2 and 3'000 - some games you'd be lucky to have more than 20 people in the BBE

I remember that winter. I walked to fisherman's walk cliffs with my mother the snow was so deep it covered the benches. And we had to chip the ice off the inside of the windows.
