Right place right time,
to be fair, he guaranteed a certain amount of cash to keep things ticking over, doubt he actually spent £100k in real terms so in a nutshell he took a punt and it paid off - for what reason I dont know, but along with him, Mitchell (self serving chancer or not), and ultimately Maxim we find ourselves in the premier league,
at the end of the day it's us, the longtime supporters of the club, who'll be here long after uncle Jeff, Watkins, Barton, Swaisland, Nolan et al are long gone

Well said FBB. Maybe then we can all get tickets

Having had a small investment of £100 in the old AFC Bournemouth I was on the mailing list of all the financial paperwork that Krasner sent out in connection with the Administration. Mostyn was in for approx £800,000.

He was the only one who put his money where his mouth is to save the club I have supported for over 50 years. I don't begrudge him coming out of it smelling of roses. I am happy to shake his hand and live the dream.

Not entirely true Paul. I wish it was
Other fans did much more many times over with little press (that means so much to Jeff) with zero reward.
Eddie and the players only see Jeff so that’s why all the praise!
I agree though that he was always going to be the best face at the time, hence why i pushed for him to be chairman to take us forward. Max and our American cousins clearly like him and if its not broken...................

We all knew the club’s financial situation for several years. We were tottering very unsteadily financially. There were collections, supporter board representation, players and staff unpaid for weeks. This was an’accident waiting to happen’.
It reached the inevitable climax
We all had the opportunity to save the club. A very few had sufficient funds or inclination.
Jeff put in his own large sum of money to save AFCB, no-one else did at the time.
The nearest we came was to buy Loan Notes, and lose 100% of our loans.
I can now watch AFCB in the Premier League, something I never even dreamed about.
Why do people vilify him ?
Good Luck to him.

I know lots of supporters lost money in loan notes, Community Mutual, Playershare etc and some a very significant amount. I meant Mostyn put money into the club in the run up and during Administration when no one else was forthcoming. I acknowledge that he had a debenture on I think it was £250k which was his salvation because it gave him partial security and kept him in the loop when everything unravelled.

His intervention unquestionably helped to save our club and for that we should be grateful. However there are perceptions (sometimes misguided) and then there is reality, and here there are most definitely two sides to the Jeff Mostyn story.

I look at it this way. Recent history shows us this...

Many fans thought Watkins was an all round good egg...they were wrong.
Many fans worshiped Phillips...they were wrong
A lot of fans backed Savi and Fatty Baker...They were wrong.
Many fans backed Jaffer...Wrong again.
Many fans backed Mitchell...They were very wrong.
Many fans back Mostyn.....That your choice. Let's face it, he has gone the distance. Perhaps all the facts aren't out there.

Unlike the others Mitchell and Mostyn oversaw the rise to the PL - were people really wrong to back them?

Whatever 'back them' means.

They aren’t. And I very much doubt any future book that may emerge on the subject will want to fully reveal these either.

Mitchell oversaw the rise to the EPL?

No.

He happened to be there at the time, allegedly lining his pockets, in the way that many football club owners and directors tend to do.

He got Demin involved; as you young people say, end of.

Mitchell must be sick as a pig over the way things have panned out at AFCB since Demin rather spectacularly give him the bum's rush.

...can't comment about Mostyn as I don't really know if he did save us as projected in the press (who enhanced everything for our rags to riches story)...and if he did stump up capital to save us and has been well rewarded for that then fair enough. He seems to have carved out himself a good PR role with us, and in doing so is protecting the obvious privacy of Max Demin.

As for the builder being our saviour and the reason for our success...I don't buy into that, yes he got Max interested in AFCB (maybe?)...and that could be considered 'lucky' rather than pre-planned?

The heirachy at the club soon saw through him and dumped him out on his arse, albeit paying him a handsome amount to go...(I can't openly reveal what I know about him ever, but suffice to say I can't believe no one has dealt with him in the manner that befits the world he moves in)

The club appears to be in a stable and more viable position these days and long may that continue!

I'm not interested in the personalities of these people. As far as I'm concerned the only important question is 'how did the state of the club when they took over compare to now or when they left?'

On that basis both Mitchell and Mostyn were successful and good chairmen. They both made a pretty packet out of it and I have absolutely no problem with that.

If the only thing that Mitchell did was to convince Max to invest then that makes him a better chairman than any other one we've had in my time following AFCB.

Everyone seemed to blame him when we sold all the players yet I'm fairly sure Howe had promised he wouldn't stand in their way if people came in for them - EH loyalty in action. Did Mitchell have any choice?

And for some bonus points Mitchell got pissed then tried to start a fight with fans on the pitch, which was hilarious.

His business dealings are nothing to do with me. I'm talking about the bloke as a football chairman not discussing if I want him to marry my sister.

If he stitched the club up I'd be the first to slate him but I just can't see that he did.

Don’t think you can doubt his passion for Afcb though. He actually bothers to talk with “ordinary”/non corporate fans too meaning he is one of the few on the board that does that (Rob Mitchell seems quite approachable too).

Jeff is a good schmoozer of the fans and loves the limelight and the kudos that this club gives him...I am happy that he promotes AFCB to the masses too!

Question is what would the alternative reality have been if Mostyn hadn't stumped up the money? No angle or subtext. I just don't know what would have happened.

I recall being there the night the decision was made. I was with Mostyn and and a couple of others straight after the meeting. He looked as terrified as he was excited. I have no doubt that it was a huge risk at the time.

As someone not in the know I have to take facts at face value and agree with the opinion of the administrator that this club was about to go under without Mostyn.

Conspiracy theories are great but without facts you can’t take them that seriously.

All owners and chairmen say they are real fans. Test is whether they continue to support the club in the years and years after they aren't in post any more.
