He got away with a yellow. Somehow. Any rules experts willing to give an insight why it wasn't a red?

Because Paul Tierney is a weak-willed, lilly-livered numpty?

These sliding tackles occur often in every game. Some on Motd last night unpunished. Either they ban them altogether or it remains refs interpretation .Think they go by how high up the victims legs it is.

It looks worse than it is because Fraser is so small.

If that had been on Crouch it wouldn't have got halfway up his boot.

Only kidding........................

thought it looked bad at the time, looks even worse on that. Def a red. Totally out of control as he lunges in with both feet studs up and off the ground.

From that angle, it's clear that it's a straight red all day long.

As with any incident, I am looking for reasons why a referee did not give what looks to be a clear decision.

My only question here is what angle did Tierney have and whether there were any players blocking his view?
As C-M initially lunges in, you can see (from behind) the studs of both feet... in other wirds, he's not leading in with his feet out studs first.
If Tierney is right behind, i.e. further to the right compared with the camera angle, then he probably doesn't see the feet come out shin high on Fraser.

It would explain why he only saw it as merely reckless hence yellow card) rather than using excessive force likely to endanger an opponent, which it was.

Just seen it now on GOS.

Unless Tierney's view of the challenge is blocked, he's got to be walking Chopou-Moting for that.

Would have been a straight red even twenty years ago.

20 years ago the police would probably have been involved, not to mention social services.

Fraser would only have been three.

Probably not a lot smaller though.

Straight red.
Refs keep on letting Stoke get away with their thugery. Why is this?

In real time I just thought it was him stretching for the ball and getting beaten for pace. That was from the NS though. The replay shows it should’ve been a red, needless to raise both feet as he did.

If Fraser doesn't move, that's a broken leg and a red card.

Him moving changes the former, but shouldn't affect the latter.

I said at the time it looked like a red to me from the NS but nobody else seemed to react to it so thought I'd not seen it properly.

What frustrates me is that this, the niggles, the fouls, the non-football football, has been going on for years and it has never been stopped. They are incredibly talented at getting in your face and not once, since I have been watching, has a ref stopped it in its tracks. If anything last season was worst than this.

Absolutely this. That's as bad a tackle as you'll see. It was so late that Ryan was lucky to have the time to react to it, ironically.
