Nothing wrong with having an opinion wallmth as long as you are willing to admit when it is wrong.

It doesn't work like that though mate . Your logic is we're doing well now so all previous criticism is now wrong . Following that line of thought it wasn't wrong to leave Cook on the subs bench as long as he was , it wasn't wrong to play Francis at right back . If the posters that are telling Dawson to "apologize and show humility" for example # failedtransferpolicy then surely the same posters should show humility for being critical of how long it took Lewis Cook to finally get a game .

Are we suggesting Cooks lack of game time is now instrumental in our current decent form. If so I bow down to Eddie Howe and show my humility.

It strikes me that the most critical on here always look for a way back in when things improve. It's almost as if by using the scatter gun approach that everything is crap (including the transfer policy )then when things do improve they are on a winner. Surely something they suggested somewhere with said scattergun approach must have happened to justify an improvement.

..and how did dawson spot a naked arse on an avatar that small more to the point :-)

....off to the to game

I’ve been wrong on many things and admit them when it happens...

Didn’t think Pugh could do championship.
Didn’t think Arter could do League one.
Didn’t think Stan could do prem.
Didn’t want us to try Gosling again...

I’m just not wrong on the need to move away from our old formation.

Actually my logic is very simple Wallmth... Do I think that Eddie makes mistakes?.. Of course he does... Do i think he deserves criticism for those mistakes?.. No absolutely not... For as the old saying goes... The man who never made a mistake never made anything..... I'm just thankful that we have a manager who is willing to make a mistake.... Not one that takes any notice of the likes of Souness telling us what small clubs like us can and can't do against 'better' teams.

I guess what some would call criticism others would call discussion .
Commentators have mentioned a few times how easy going our fan base is .
When things are going wrong , and when we find ourselves in the bottom three things are wrong ,there is not a single call for sacking the manager .
Tell me how many other league managers would have that much backing from the supporters ? For some though even talk of what Eddie , the recuitement team ,or whatever should do different is seen as disloyalty.
Do you really think Dawson's match reports would be worth a read if every single one wrote everything is great there are no issues whatsoever because Eddie is infallible ?

Surely the easier option is to just say Eddie is God and it will all come good .I mean his track record speaks for itself it's why every single season we've improved our league position .We should all just keep our heads down especially when you know that when he does put an issue to rights that's been discussed( critiqued )on here there's going to be an online punishment march .

Souness and Phil Thompson need brain - cell donations for transplants. They would be better suited to reporting on Toxteth v Croxteth on a Scouse Park! or some jockey could ride the blinkered tw#t at Aintree!

Eddie only gets team selection and tactics right, after he’s read all the posts on here.

I actually think some of the posters on here are very knowledgable on football and tactics,as a lot of things we were screaming for on here have actually come to fruition and improved our results ......

I think a lot of us have wanted to see a front 3 for a while...

And now we're top of the Form League

Eddie Who?

I do like a front 3 for the fluidity it gives a side in attack. It also doesn’t have to be with a back 3 - when Smith is back it could work well with a back 4 with Surman replacing a centre back.

What a lot of us weren’t expecting to see was a front 4! It was brave from Eddie after 60 mins but after that change, Stoke couldn’t handle Ibe, Mousset and King. Wilson not quite as effective today but still could easily have had a brace.

It always amazes me that some people seem to think that a change of formation comes about in 5minutes....Eddie just rocks up at training one day and out of the blue announces ..right lads i've been reading our fans forum for a bit of inspiration from Neil and the boys and we're going to give 3 at the back a lash on Saturday!..........obviously it takes months of practice before a new formation can be trusted on Matchday.....we are seeing the benefit of that work on the training ground now and who know what else they are working on.......he'll get plenty of advice on the technical aspects of formations on here of course.....

We've played three at the back on and off in all three seasons in the top flight. They've been working on it for years.

Of course he doesn't read this site for advice but people are entitled to their opinions on formations. This is a website where football fans discuss football. We all know EH knows more than we do about tactics - even Paul Lambert does - but that doesn't mean we can't state our opinions and argue with others who do.

It seems we have to go over this point time and time again.

The difference between wanting something and doing something is probably many hours on the training ground doing the boring and tedious sessions around shape. It’s funny when people think just change formation and it will just work.

And presumably Lewis Cook would have been crap had we dropped Surman or Arter earlier so it was good we waited so long?

And Franno needed to play at right back with Smith as sub because Smith wasn’t ready to play in his lifetime position because he needed months of training in it too?

Like SDD said...we have played a back three/five before....notably against Man City the week after a 4-4-2 at West Brom. First two games of the season. Following the logic it takes months to prepare the team to do this how was this possible?

Sam Allardyce gets very upset when he seems to have spent 5 min showing 11 players (inc debutants) a formation on a flip chart and they don't pick it up immediately

Yes we have played 3 at the back before, but mainly as special measures against Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City. I've only seen a few of the last 10 games (but the key ones!). Before yesterday's 13 minutes, how many times have we used it against the lesser teams?

Eddie started on the defensive shape, and now has had time to work on the attacking patterns of play. but of course, if you think that consistent success comes from throwing people on the pitch and letting them get on with it, you believe that.

Not sure what your point about Cook, or Smith/Francis is. you've lost me on that one.
