So he was completely wrong after all... .....Eddie continues to make 'experts' like Souness look like fools.

Hold on, I thought Howe had changed his tactics due to the comments and that led to the win over Arsenal?

Souness, many other pundits and quite a few on here were saying we were too open in formation and that 4-4-2 was limited. It took a lot of defeats before we switched to the formation it was pretty obvious suited our best players and got Lewis Cook playing permanently...something 90% of fans were crying out for.

So you could equally argue he and especially Danny Murphy have been proved right.

Personally I don’t dislike Souness as a pundit.

He talks a load of b_ollo_x at times, but he’s an ok kinda bloke compared to Savage, Glen ‘they should do it my way’ Hoddle and some others.

As for Jamie Redders, I wonder if he’s on a ‘Sky Win Bonus’ for trying to imitate a likable cockney geezer.

Eddie certainly shoved it up him.

He's making a few pundits look daft...and of course Neil

I’ve never seen Souness the Season Ticket and I sit in with the lot who rattle their jewelry to make noise (as Lennon said) ....

Anyone else on here know where he sits or is this one of those ‘ten year season tickets’ that expired after three months?

Apologies but in perpetuity Neil its appears you will always find fault. You will attempt to spin your way out of it as you are now, Souness will of course be proven right unless Eddie is the next Pep.

Who next to ship out who's no more than championship standard ?

Didn't we match both Arsenal and Chelseas formations? Souness said doing that was a daft idea.

I know kall about tactics and formations mind.

I’m no fan of Souness. He will say as many things wrong or right...it’s the pundits way.

I’m just not sure what he (and me apparently according to you) have been proved daft over. Anyway, it’s not about me...SDD was always pointing out that a back three allowed us to play our best formation and keep Smith and Steve Cook in the team. Almost all of us including you thought it was mad Lewis never played. Many people pointed out that Ibe needed to be free of defensive duties. God knows how many people pointed out that three flat lines of players was easy to pick off and defend against. Some of these things I agreed with, some I didn’t.

We had a long old poor run though before the penny dropped and also a few injuries forced out of form favourites out of the side. A lot of pundits pointing out what fans were also saying. Now credit to Eddie for changing and applying all of his other great points that we know and love to a different tactical system but you can’t pretend the first 20 games of the season didn’t happen...or that we weren’t bang average.

It doesn’t matter now and I’m sure it won’t matter come the end if we carry on like this but many people were commenting on what needed to change at the time. You can gloss over this if you want but if you point it out expect people to remind you of a few facts!

Souness and Merson also said that Eddie's over reliance on the "old guard" and his loyalty to them would be our downfall. I also didn't hear one pundit say what we as fans were saying, in fact quite the opposite when it came to Danny Mills and Martin Keown.

Jermain Jenas and Danny Murphy were the only two I heard saying they thought EH was right sticking to his principles.

We were all crying out for Lewis Cook to play that is true. To say the "penny dropped" is the usual hindsight call. We weren't bang average by the way Neil. We had a tough start but in amongst that bang average 20 games we should have had a point out of Man City, beat Brighton & Huddersfield and recorded a couple of excellent wins at Stoke & Newcastle. We also gave Spurs & Chelsea pretty close games.

The only disappointing games for me were WBA, Watford, Arsenal, Liverpool & Burnley but 2 of them I expected to get turned over in regardless.

Bang average? Not for me.

Most seasons will be a struggle in this division.

Should we all sit on from the sidelines and clap like seals?

This forum wouldn’t exist without differences of opinion.

I still can’t stand Gosling as a player, I’m sure he’s a lovely bloke but he is absolute pants at this level.

I’m sure others will beg to differ.

I’m talking about performances not results... and whether we were still moving forwards as a team. We weren’t we looked less effective than the year before. Trying to shoehorn Defoe in and losing Kings confidence, dropping Smith and Cook to fit Franno in every week, playing Arter and Surman further and further out of form while Cook sat on the bench or in stand.

Eddie that said we had lost our intensity and the Bournemouth way because he had over concentrated on defending. If you don’t believe me maybe you will him. He has decided more recently to redress that balance with the formation half this board called for. Injuries forced Defoe, Surman and Arter into spells on the sideline and Wilson and Cook back in. Kings injury meant we stopped playing him in the hole where his pace is least effective and got a proper front three.

Most seasons will be a struggle for a team like us...nobody would dispute that. Amazing how more straightforward it looks with the right formation and best players on pitch though.

Jenas and Murphy the best two for me. They understand Eddie unlike some pundits.

Souness is in the entertainment industry and makes good viewing. I met him recently and had a chat about Afcb and he was very positive about us!

I don't know what Souness said but Neil is right about the switch in formation leading to our improved performances and results.

No formation is without its problems but this one has so many positives for us

Getting our best two CBs (Cook and Ake) in the team but keeping Franno's height without leaving him exposed at RB. Energy and creativity in the middle but without leaving them as isolated as they get in a 4-4-2. Allowing Ibe to do what he does best without being a liability defensively. Three lightening quick attackers that can be absolutely devastating on the break.

I was never one who thought we were dreadful but it's definitely no coincidence that we look much better now.

I can understand people not rating Gozza but he's been brilliant recently and you couldn't drop him at the moment.

It's always about the team and not individuals. Gosling is working well in the team.

Eddie had the firkin shed bugged and finally took our advice. If he had changed it sooner we'd be several points better off.

Just my view.

Agreed with all that Neil and especially because I wanted Arter dropped, even over Surman who has had a better season. The fact Gosling has become undroppable must be a surprise to all of us.

Dragon obviously wasn't at our last few games. Gosling still played plenty of misplaced passes Wednesday, but I wouldn't consider any of our other central midfielders to play instead of him at the moment. He and Lewis seem to be working perfectly.

I think Lewis Cook is really benefitting from his prolonged period on the sidelines, where he was able to build his full season fitness after missing pre season with England...

Still sometimes reaches 60-70 minutes and begins to fade and make errors, but that will continue to improve with regular games, now he has that foundation that he's built being patient and working on the training ground.

If he has a season ticket and goes to most games, he's likely to just want to see us win and is voicing his frustrations the same way many of us do on these forums. Most of his points would have been posted here over and over.
