Anyone heard of any genuine transfer rumors ? I know Eddie seems to think we will have a quiet window , but we must sign a couple of players to help our chances of staying in the premier league. Let's be honest we have to , otherwise I fear for our future. What ever league we are in I'll always support my team .

How do you know what a genuine transfer rumour is, unless Al posts it of course...................

Think Eddie did mention (but could be wrong) that he was going to continue with the same squad so not looking for anyone else.

This was before losing Defoe and our other injury problems.

Rumours about one or two of our players leaving, think Eddie wants to keep them.

So will be interesting if there are any comings and goings.

January is a time when you get inflated prices for players as well, this is why Saints might not be spending a big ammount until the Summer.

....not heard anything other than the tabloid speculative punts about Arter to West Ham....Grabban to a Championship club like Fulham,Aston Villa or Fulham....the Afobe speculation may now be buried due to Defoe’s injury...

....I hope Eddie is looking for a gem somewhere, but maybe we do have enough even if we have to throw in Simpson....Mahoney and Hyndman along the way?

Not sure how much we've got to spend in January or if we will commit to any big fees in what usually is an inflated window. Some positions I think we need are a Right Back, Defensive Midfielder & Creative Midfielder whether that be from a wide area or another central player. From the games I've watched this season a few player have caught my eye but not sure how realistic they're given that we never dip into Europe so have no real knowledge of the calibre of team we can recruit from or the level of player we can recruit so just suggesting some players that aren't readily known by some fans who don't follow footy outside of England.

Santiago Arias (PSV) - Attacking right back would suit our style of play better than Smith & Franno.

Abdoulaye Toure (Nantes) - Physical presence 6ft "2" interceptions & tackles are strongest attributes

Malcom & Hakim Ziyech (Bordeaux & Ajax respectively)- Both probably unrealistic as bigger clubs have been in & will likely go in again but both magic on the ball. Types of players we need to recruit to unlock defences via quick dribbling & ability to beat a man 1v1 in wide areas (Malcom) or an eye for a pass & decent set piece threat playing centrally (Ziyech)

David Neres(Ajax) - Similar to Malcom just not as good so more likely for us to sign. Plenty of tricks can go either side, cut in on his left to shoot or cross off his right from the byline. Plenty of flicks and tricks

Note* likelihood of us looking at the players mentioned isn't very high given our track record & I appreciate we will probably recruit from English leagues & some of these may be out of our reach.

The left winger for West Ham, no 26 Masuaku looked useful.

Chambers of Arsenal has been out in the cold for a long time.

One point that perhaps doesn’t get mentioned is that as we have such a British based dressing room, any foreign lad coming in is going to feel like a massive outsider, especially if they don’t speak English. I’m sure that’s one of the reasons why Iturbe looked so lost during his time here.

Generally Dutch, Belgian, German and Portuguese players have a much stronger command of English than Spanish, French and Italian so I’d suggest if we were to go abroad those would be the markets to recruit from. An added bonus is they are probably cheaper too

Not many whatsoever because our scouting network isn't exactly great. We also haven't tried that many times in this league & the ones we have signed haven't been given much of a chance. Not really our strategy so as fans we have no real experience of what level of club abroad we can attract players from.

Maddison looks an interesting call ... we’re often said to be soft in midfield and need at least one incoming here.

Key issue - we need a player who can hold the ball and who doesn’t pass to the side or back on autopilot. Lewis Cook tries the forward ball - an important change - but needs support, preferably from someone with a tackle in them. This sort of recruit will be well worth spending on - big money if necessary.

Saw couple of clips of Yeovil on local TV down here. This Surridge boy looks promising, couple of well taken goals. Reckon worth a try when we are in safer position if he's brought back. Heard that P. Argyle like him.

Surridge.....will not reach PL level IMO, but will probably have a good lower league career. I speak to many Yeovil fans who have watched him playing for them....

I always thought Cargill had a future here but he fell away and is at Fleetwood on loan. Is he ever going to make it or just going to be a good EFL player?

Liam Kelly, central midfielder at Reading. Last season was outstanding in helping the club reach the playoff final. Believe he's about 21 years old. This season by all accounts has been absolutely pants. That said if some thing is going on behind the scenes performances can be affected
