We played the full 90+ minutes and ground out a valuable result. Can we play Arter and Surman together when neither seems to know a forwards pass when both are on the pitch? Arter used to make some good forward passes but seems to have lost it lately and wastes too much by turning back to make a pass. The previous couple of games saw the old Surman, where did he go today?
It seems that in every match someone puts in a mediocre performance. Defoe appears miffed by starting on the bench and offers little movement now. He should be creating space and pulling defences about. Why isn't he?
Still it's looking better now than it did a couple of weeks ago. A couple of games where everyone is on song and we'll be looking up, not down.

Wilson and King...thats how we build on this. You just see how everyone else plays well around them. Would prefer Cook in midfield with Surman but we have the players to score goals and we certainly have the players in Cook, Ake and Begovic to keep a clean at the back. We have work to do on the wings if we cant keep Stan fit.

Looking good and we continue to push for that top half finish again this year.

Agree with you Druss. It's the midfield that worries me. The way we play, thankfully, is not long balls from defence, so midfield has to supply the service to Wilson and King. Accurate forward passes to strikers are vital and we are not seeing enough of this at the moment

Yes.

When we started to push forward in the last 20 minutes or so, then we really posed a threat. Looking for the incisive pass was important.

What was missing was the overlapping wing play and taking the ball to the line like we play at home.

Hate to say it but we need yet another winger come January.

Pugh has no pace, looks like he struggles with the PL pace of the game
Stan is very injury prone
Fraser seems out of favour
Ibe still very frustrating with his final ball despite great approach play

Well you say that but Wilson seems to have this ability to be an outlet down either wing when we pass ourselves into trouble. On more than a few occasions one of the back four have picked him out and bypassed a crowded midfield. I think that kind of counter is what we need to get better control of games. If stoke knew we

I think Atsu and Ritchie (supported my Gayle and others) pinned us in incredibly well down our own flanks, which led to a few heart in mouth moments.

Yes I can see that Wilson doing that helps, but I'd rather see him in the box and someone else being an outlet on the wings. A decent winger who can fire in a dangerous cross would be a welcome addition.

The ball down the wing was how Wilson led us to the Champ title. Its exactly how he plays

The other thing Wilson does is bullies defenders, he is incredibly strong. Easier in the Championship of course but still valuable. He also has imagination, the backheel when he scrored against West Brom stays in the memory.

Against teams that sit deep against us, Lewis Cook’s passing is needed otherwise we just play it square and backwards imho

Surman came good in the end with a perfect corner.
First 30 minutes the whole team bar Begovic were lethargic and lacked energy. Especially the midfield.

At least we came good in the second half. That's how we have to build by starting with the mindset of how we finished the match.

We've been building since Watford.

However in the first half we went backwards, back to that piss poor performance. I think we would have comfortably won with Lewis Cook instead of Arter. I've no issue with him being used as an impact sub which he did so effectively at Stoke but it was almost as if weeks of progress and hard graft was undone with the team selection.

My worry is that it'll be the last we see of him until Eddie realises it just ain't working again.

And it's what sets Wilson apart from our other striking options.
It gives us an extra dimension.
