Before the season began, I think most people predicted the standard top 6, with Everton a popular choice as 7th.

Looking unlikely now, and at the moment it's Burnley sitting pretty, although that's unlikely to last, especially if Dyche goes.

So who's going to take that coveted 7th spot ? Of all the likely mid-table teams (Saints, WBA, WHU, etc) I can't see an obvious contender.

If we get our act together in November, as I expect, then why not us ?

The talk was of this at the end of last season from players and fans , but something went awry between then and now !
It looks unlikely unless we really turn things around ....

Need to start finding the net, not much problem elsewhere.

Stoke was the culmination of a week on week improvement and we now have a great chance with these upcoming fixtures to get a few more points on the board.

I'm quietly confident things will start to happen.

I'd disagree with the "not much problem elsewhere" statement, our main problem is where it's always been,at the back,we can't keep a clean sheet, only one in all competitions so far this season, and that's despite a £30m investment in the back 5.

We look far less vulnerable at the back.

To be fair we look a far more solid team against spurs and city - light years away from recent seasons. Would agree though that we are still giving away soft goals from individual errors. I would try Steve Cook on the right side of defence again as franno has been directly involved in each of the goals conceded in 3 successive games. If josh king was scoring like last season we would be in a totally different place.

I think we ARE better at the back this season; problem is we can't seem to score.
If we had played conservatively against Liverpool last year, but with our current scoring form, we would have lost 1 or 2 nil instead of winning 4-3.
I'd rather win 4-3 any day than 2-0.

Is it just a coincidence that Nathan Ake has improved since playing alongside Francis?

A Master can still teach others even if he can no longer always do what he teaches. Remember that Grasshopper. (With apologies to Kung-Fu)

It's a no brainer at the moment. When Wilson and King are both playing up front and fully fit we will see a totally different team and outcome to our matches. I am not concerned about our defence as it's much tighter than in previous years. Let's not forget all teams make mistakes.

Cheers

Ps why not us for 7th

middlesbrough were "solid at the back" all last season. what made us different was our willingness to have a go, distinctly lacking on saturday.

Absolutely agree WW our attacking options were no where good enough and the return of a decent strike force will put that right.

Cheers

We needed a full strength team for this period though - the worst thing about last week was the injury to Stan.

Always used statto.com to get stats on various league positions of clubs going back through the seasons, statto.com has not reappeared this season for some reasom.

So found this from last season's table at this stage.

Two of the bottom three were relegated, we were in 10th place on 12 points.
