Bond on trialist Mulryne

Former Manchester United and Norwich City midfielder Phil Mulryne is currently on trial at Bournemouth.

The Northern Ireland International joined up with the Cherries squad for the first day of pre-season training and Bond told the Daily Echo...

'...He's been at Cardiff and didn't play as much as he would have liked and then went to Orient. But he missed pre-season last year and it is always difficult to catch up.

'With a proper pre-season under his belt, he's already proved himself as a regular Championship player and also played for Norwich in the Premiership.

'He's got the opportunity to get himself properly fit and we'll see how things go...'

Philip Mulryne is a Northern Ireland International. The 29 year old has picked up 25 caps, scoring 3 times. After coming through the ranks at Manchester United, he has played 170 league games for Norwich including helping them win promotion from the Championship and 10 games in the Premiership. In 2005 he joined Cardiff before joining Leyton Orient in February.

When i have seen him play in the past he has looked like a good player. Hopefully with a good preseason he could do a good job for us.

was he playing for northern ireland when they beat england?

He'd lost his N.Ireland place by then. Phil has been out of condition since before he left Norwich - a bit too fond of the old Guinness and Kebabs diet! Good player if you can get him fit though, I hope he sorts himself out with you boys.

As a Norwich season ticket holder, I have seen him play many times. He is more of a playmaker than a battling midfield player. On his day he is one of the best passers around, and can also take a decent free kick. His problem was rumoured to be the lack of commitment in training. Apparantly he got complacent and lost his place. His contract wasn't renewed and he's struggled since then. I hope that has been a wake up for him. If he can be half as good as his first couple of seasons at Norwich he will be able to do a great job for you.

Sorry to see his career fall off the rails! Hopefully this is the boost he needs!
