Howe: A massive 20 minutes for us

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was pleased with his side coming from behind to earn a point against Newcastle United.

Following a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town in their last outing in the Premier League, the Cherries returned to Dean Court hoping to extend their run of consecutive victories.

But a poor first half performance, which included some goalkeeping errors from Asmir Begovic, saw the Cherries trail 2-0 at half time.

Howe made three substitutes during the second half, the first right at the start saw Adam Smith replace Charlie Daniels at left back.

Then Lys Mousset and Jermain Defoe made their introductions.

Within 10 minutes, AFC Bournemouth began the comeback with Adam Smith scoring the Cherries first, the equaliser was then hit by Dan Gosling.

Howe told the

'...I always believed that we were good enough despite the situation. The lack of opportunities meant that it was always going to be difficult to find two goals.

'We had to find a way to open them up. We changed the system, the substitutions made a difference, and we were able to turn the screw and penned them in their half...'

'...It's encouraging that we didn't get beaten by a team in and around us. At the end it was a massive 20 minutes for us, so I'm really pleased that we got something out of it.

Not good but... a point's a point

Lucky escape really and strange that we had then under siege to claim the three points considering what had gone before.

Hopefully the comeback gees them on to better play as we could still get dragged into the fight at the bottom if we play like today or Hudders.
