Howe: Nothing malicious behind it from Afobe

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe does not believe that Benik Afobe's comments and actions, since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers have been malicious.

Afobe has angered some sections of the AFC Bournemouth support with comments he has made following his short-term loan spell to Wolves.

Despite having spent twice as long on the south coast with AFC Bournemouth, Afobe has described his return to Wolves as a return 'home', claiming that he cried tears of joy at the prospect of the move nearing completion as he waited in his car in Wolverhampton.

Afobe has scored once in 23 appearances this season and whilst there had been plenty of rumours linking him with a move away, Howe had previously insisted that he would remain in the squad.

But on transfer deadline day he did not travel to London with the rest of the squad for the fixture against Chelsea and instead waited for his potential loan move to Wolves, which was only agreed following the full time whistle at Stamford Bridge.

Afobe has since told the Express & Star...

"I was that sure of coming back I made a video of clips of me scoring Wolves goals to put on Instagram a week before deadline day."

The first of which just so happened to be a goal he scored against AFC Bournemouth...

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"I think it`s difficult. Benik will say what he feels and that`s his right. He feels like he has returned to a club he knows very well.

"Probably a lot of people at the club will maybe feel like family to him. I don`t know, I`m just trying to think of reasons why he may have used that term ('home').

"That is how he feels at this moment in time and I don`t know what else I can really say on it."

Discussing Afobe's Instagram posts, Howe added...

'...I am sure there is nothing malicious behind it. Knowing Benik, I am sure it`s not meant to be disrespectful towards us...'

Your Say...

I liked benik and thought he had a role to play for us but I never understood why benik looked so off the pace in some games, almost bordering on lack of interest. I am sure he was motivated but seemed a spectator at times whereas on form he was a real handful. He played a role in keeping us up for two seasons so wish him well.. - Join the conversation here.
