Howe: We just faded away

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has apologised to the travelling supporters following the Cherries heavy defeat to Huddersfield Town.

The Cherries travelled on Sunday morning for the early kick off on the back of an unbeaten run of seven matches, the longest run of consecutive games without defeat that AFC Bournemouth have enjoyed in the top flight of English football.

Howe stuck with the same side that beat Premier League champions Chelsea 3-0 in their last away fixture.

But the home side got an early breakthrough when Simon Francis was beaten for pace down the flank and Dan Gosling failed to track his man, allowing Alex Pritchard to open the scoring.

Ryan Fraser and Junior Stanislas combined to get the Cherries level after just 13 minutes and at this point, it felt like AFC Bournemouth could have enough to cut through Huddersfield's defence and go on to win the game.

But a poor free kick conceded by Lewis Cook gave Huddersfield the chance to restore their lead with Steve Mounie beating both Francis and Steve Cook for the header.

Huddersfield's third came following a defence mistake from Steve Cook, Steve Mounie would strike the shot, but the goal would eventually be awarded to Cook as an own goal for his deflection.

The fourth came via the penalty spot after Dan Gosling clumsily brought down his man.

Howe told Sky Sports...

'I apologise to them (the supporters) for the performance, There's not much else I can say.

'When you're aware of the financial and time sacrifices that people make, you want to reward them with an inspiring performance, one that they can go away and talk about for many years. I don't think that will be happening after that.

'I knew that Huddersfield would have wanted to get the crowd involved in the game today very early.

'Unfortunately for us, we allowed that to happen by conceding early. We fought back very well, but after that, we just faded away. It wasn't great from us. We had no control.'

Your Say...

We looked absolutely knackered today. Everyone well off their pace, struggling with the basics, second to everything.

You certainly wouldn't know Huddersfield had an extra cup game midweek.

Really don't think Steve Cook was fit. Dunno what Franno's excuse was though! Dreadful and clearly targeted by Wagner. Even Ake had probably his worst game for the club.
