Afobe: Glad to be home at Wolves

AFC Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe made a somewhat surprise departure from Dean Court on deadline day, re-joining Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Despite having spent twice as long on the south coast with AFC Bournemouth, Afobe has described his return to Wolves as a return 'home'.

In January 2015 for a fee of around £2million, Afobe left Arsenal for Wolves.

He ended the season making 21 appearances in the Championship, scoring 13, pushing his season tally to 32 (after spending the first half of the season on loan with MK Dons).

During the summer of 2015 he broke into the England Under 21's side for the first time and was the subject of a reported £10million bid from Norwich City.

Those advances were rejected and he went on to make an additional 27 appearances, scoring 10 goals until Wolves agreed a deal in the region of £9million with AFC Bournemouth in January 2016.

A decent return for Wolves, after he spent less than 12 months at Molineux.

The following two years at Dean Court have been mixed, overall he has made 70 appearances for the Cherries scoring 11 goals.

Four of those goals came during his first eight appearances for the club, helping the side to victories over Norwich City, Crystal Palace and Southampton and a crucial point away to Sunderland. All of which played their part in the club securing safety during their first season in the Premier League.

This season however, Afobe has scored once in 23 appearances and whilst there had been plenty of rumours linking him with a move away, Howe had previously insisted that he would remain in the squad.

Afobe told wolves.co.uk...

"I have unfinished business here, I've been keeping tabs on the club and the team for the whole season. I obviously still have friends here, they've been doing great.

'Two years ago I left, everyone knows that, it's been good playing at Bournemouth in the Premier League but I'm glad to be home, this feels like home for me.

'It was probably the best year of football I had. I just thank Wolves for giving me the opportunity to come back and hopefully I can score goals from now until the end of the season."

Well all the best then Benik. He is a nice chap, a good guy. He showed against Wigan what a shell of a player he had become so I hope a change of scenery and role puts the spring back in his step and a smile back on his face.

I need to find yet another new favourite player. In recent years I've gone for Pitman, O'Kane and Afobe. Each one became the boo-boy target and left. I'm a jinx.
