Cherries linked with trio of signings

Cherries linked with trio of signings

AFC Bournemouth are expected to be quite quiet during this January transfer window.

The Cherries aren't known for being big movers during the mid-season window, but AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has also stated that if an opportunity arises they may well look to strengthen.

teamTALK have reported that 'Saints, Brighton, Bournemouth chase non-league ace'.

The target is 23 year old Swiss striker Gold Omotayo.

The forward only joined National League South side Whitehawk last month after playing amateur football in Switzerland. But after scoring five goals in five games 'Premier League clubs have been flocking to check him out'.

The two other potential targets are both defenders, with West London Sport reporting 'Bournemouth are monitoring Brentford youngster Chris Mepham', whilst Dundee Evening Telegraph believe 'Dundee`s resolve to hang on to star defender Jack Hendry tested by English Premier League pair Bournemouth and Crystal Palace'.

Chris Mepham is a 20 year old Welsh Under 21's international who has made 12 appearances for Championship side Brentford this season.

Jack Hendry is a 22 year old, with a £1.5million price tag, who has also received interest from Celtic.

The Dundee Evening Telegraph added...

'Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, in particular, is strongly interested in the young centre-half and has had him extensively watched.

He`s been impressed by the reports gathered on Hendry and believes he would fit perfectly into his team`s passing style.'

However, speaking to the Daily Echo, Howe doesn't believe he will strengthen his defensive options in the coming days...

"In terms of the January window, I don`t think we`ll be looking outside to help us.

"Conceding goals is a slight concern. I think the biggest concern for us around that time was we weren`t scoring enough goals.

"We worked hard to re-find our goalscoring touch and did that maybe at a cost of conceding some goals. But I think it`s a balance which has always served us okay in the past.

"We have been free-scoring but we have always been a team slightly susceptible to concede. But that`s a better balance for us.

I read yesterday that 92% of January window deals take place in the final 48 hours so we could still see some movement in. That said, by now you would expect negotiations to be well under way between clubs and agents and there is no indication from any credible source this is happening at the moment. - Join the conversation here.
