Howe: We showed character and spirit
AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe believed his side showed good character to come from behind twice against Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Cherries kicked off the Premier League in 2018 with the early kick off along the south coast at the Amex Stadium.
But it was the home side who celebrated the first goal of the year when they opened up the Cherries defence in the first five minutes of the game.
The sides however went in level at half time after Steve Cook scored a header from a corner, which looped into the top corner off the crossbar.
But just like the first half, Brighton once again took the lead early in the second half forcing the Cherries to once again come from behind.
The equalising goal, most likely to prove to be the scrappiest goal the Cherries score in 2018 finally rolled over the line with the final touch coming from Callum Wilson.

Howe told afcb.co.uk...
'It was tight, a tough game and the two teams were really going for the win. We made it difficult for ourselves by conceding early in both halves and whenever you do that you`re chasing the game.
'At this level, you have to commit bodies forward. We did that and, at the end of the game, we were going for the win. We showed a lot of quality going forward so there are good signs in terms of our mental approach, but we`re just disappointed in how we conceded the two goals...'
'...We didn`t defend the two situations very well and we had to come back and show the character and spirit that we`ve still got and shown in recent weeks. When you look at both the West Ham game and the Everton game, we`ve been tested in both and come out the other side.
More questions than answers
Pugh has looked so ineffective every time he's appeared lately you have to wonder if he's reaching the end of his time with us. I very much doubt he would have been in the 16 if injuries had permitted.
According to the commentary team, Arter apparently had a strop when subbed off. Easy to read too much into that but given all the smoke about at the moment...
I laid off from commenting on Francis for a long time but I've given in the last couple of weeks. If we sign one player this window it has to be another player that allows him not to play, at least for a while.
Mousset needs a loan out somewhere to get game time. It's pointless bringing him on when he's clearly so out of touch. However, I'm not sure if we can do that with the injuries in the squad. I'd assume he'll start next week and maybe that could be the opening he needs.
Afobe had a big chance to claim a starting place for several weeks to come today and he blew it massively. Comfortably the worst player on the pitch. Unfortunately.
Begovic... awesome. I don't expect we'll hear from badkeeper today. - Join the conversation here.
