Cook: A vital three points
AFC Bournemouth defender Steve Cook described scoring the winner against Newcastle United in the 92nd minute as 'an unbelievable feeling'.
The Cherries defender had recently lost his place in the side, dropping to the bench in favour of a back four of Adam Smith, Simon Francis, Nathan Ake and Charlie Daniels.
Cook returned to the starting line up as part of a back three, joining Francis and Ake against Chelsea.
But for the Newcastle United trip, AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe reverted back to a flat back four, with Francis replacing Smith at right back, opening up the centre back role for Cook.
The decision paid dividends with a clean sheet and Steve Cook scoring the winner in stoppage time.
Unbelievable feeling. Huge result for us today. Thanks for the travelling fans. Safe travels back 🍒— Steve Cook (@SteveCook28) November 4, 2017
Cook was quoted by sportsmole.co.uk...
'We don't score enough goals from set plays and what a time to get it. It's a vital three points, First half Newcastle were brilliant, Asmir Begovic kept us in the game but we showed spirit. We were dogged and outstanding defensively.'
Massive win!! Happy with the clean sheet and buzzing for @stevecook03 💪🏽Thank you for your support and have a good trip home🍒🍒🙌🏽🙌🏽 pic.twitter.com/iVd26ssE3B— Nathan Aké (@NathanAke) November 4, 2017
How do we build on this?
Wilson and King...thats how we build on this. You just see how everyone else plays well around them. Would prefer Cook in midfield with Surman but we have the players to score goals and we certainly have the players in Cook, Ake and Begovic to keep a clean at the back. We have work to do on the wings if we cant keep Stan fit.
Looking good and we continue to push for that top half finish again this year. - Join the conversation here.
