Howe: We showed our resilient side

Howe: We showed our resilient side

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was pleased with the Cherries performance to secure all three points away to Stoke City.

There was a surprise in the team line-up with first choice strikers Joshua King and Jermain Defoe both absent.

King was missing through illness, forced to watch on from the stands, whilst Jermain Defoe was ruled out through injury.

They were replaced by Benik Afobe and Lys Mousset.

But any fear that the Cherries would lose their attacking threat was soon allayed, when they secured all three points with two quick fire goals inside three minutes.

Stanislas was involved in both goals, creating an assist for Andrew Surman to finish off a fine team goal, before stepping up to score the second from the penalty spot after Benik Afobe had been brought down inside the box.

Prior to the game AFC Bournemouth had looked a little adrift in the bottom three of the Premier League, but following Saturday's round of fixtures, the Cherries are now just one point behind 15th.

After the game, Howe told Sky Sports...

'It was a massive, massive game today especially with Chelsea to come next week. We knew the importance of not becoming detached from the teams above us so that was a really gritty performance, especially in the second half.

'It was contrasting halves form us really as in the first half we moved the ball really well, some of our attacking play was really incisive and we looked like we could score goals and we got the two.

'But you did fear with the weather conditions that the second half would be a different game and it was but thankfully we showed our resilient side and managed to see the game out.

'At this level of football you can't give yourself too much to do and with each game going by that you don't win the task becomes tougher so we were well aware that we need to win quickly and this is a tough place to come so it's a special win for us.'

Your Say...

Every time Lewis Cook touched the ball in the first half the away end was purring. He was just excellent. Likewise Ake, Ibe and Junior showed confidence and comfort on the ball. So good to watch.

Second half we defended far too deep and nearly blew it. Thankfully Stoke were poor and disorganised. EH should have kept attacking after the turnaround, when we did Stoke got the wobbles.

And the only thing worse than Stoke's play was their fans.

Anytime a decision went against them all you heard Was 'Cheat, cheat, cheat...' They sang that more than Delilah... how f'in embarrassing is that

I guess when your manager's a moany little b**** it doesn't take long to translate to the stands.

Anyway, great win!
