Wilson: I feel ready to go now

Wilson: I feel ready to go now

AFC Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson has scored his first goals since his return from his latest injury.

The Cherries top goalscorer during their Championship winning season has been plagued by knee injuries during the Cherries first three seasons in the Premier League.

Wilson injured his right knee in a match against Stoke City in September 2015, which ruled him out for a little over six months.

He played six games towards the end of that season and then featured in 21 games last season, scoring 6 goals before he was ruled out for the remainder of that campaign with another ACL injury, this time his left knee.

He underwent surgery in February and recently returned to full training with the first team.

In recent weeks he has stepped up his rehabilitation with two outings for the AFC Bournemouth development squad.

The first was as one of three over-age outfield players that were allowed to be played in the game against Norwich City in the Premier League Cup.

Just a few days later and Wilson was back on the pitch for the Under 21's side, this time bagging a brace in a 3-2 defeat to Cheltenham Town.

Wilson told

"It`s always good to score as it builds confidence and since the injury it`s good to get back on the scoresheet even if we were unfortunate not to get the result. On another day we`d get the win here.

"I was never in doubt over my abilities and I feel I`m striking the ball probably better than I was before to be honest...'

'...I`m feeling fine, the knee feels strong and I feel ready to go now. I`m going to carry on working hard in training and waiting for my chance."

if Callum now has 2 strong knees, and is performing fitness tests better than previously, this could be great news. I know we have a romantic view of him, due to the promotion season and how he started in the premier league, but barring the strong knees exposing weaknesses elsewhere, he could be like a great new signing. A decent man too it seems and deserves another chance - Join the conversation here.

This is some real positive news! I think that Callum deserves some good fortune, let's hope he can ignite our season at some point!
