Afobe: It was a clinical performance

AFC Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe enjoyed his run out in the Premier League Cup against Norwich City last week.

With the summer signing of Jermain Defoe adding to the Cherries firepower in attack, Benik Afobe has seen few chances for appearances this season to-date.

The 24 year old, who has made just 6 appearances totalling 176 minutes thus far this campaign, opted to be named as one of three over-age outfield players that the Cherries were allowed to select in the Under 23's competition.

The competition is currently in a group phase round with AFC Bournemouth set to play Bury and Wolverhampton Wanderers both home and away, with the away tie against Norwich City also yet to come.

Afobe's hat-trick secured all three points for the side, managed by former Cherries captain Carl Fletcher.

Afobe told the Daily Echo...

'Finishing is finishing, whether it's training, a reserves game or a first-team game.

'You always want to finish the chances you get. I had three chances and scored three so it was a clinical performance.

'The game was for fitness. I asked if I could get a run-out and they thought about it and said 'as long as you want to'.

'I knew that having chosen to play, I had to play properly. Sometimes in football, you see first-team players come down to this level and sack it off but I knew I had to give 100 per cent.

Thought it was good night... Wilson looked 'ok' for his first run-out... Did well with some nice runs and a few games down the line, he'd have bagged a couple...

After a dodgy first 5 mins I think we settles and were quite dominant for the first half... Second half was different as Norwich came at us and we seemed to lose it a bit... Hyndman looks like he can offer us something in the middle as well... Very comfortable on the bar and everything went through him...

Ollie Harfield also had a decent game, along with our numbers 7 and 11 (No idea who they were...)

We seemed to lose our way after Wilson went off as well...

The story of Afobe is strange. If he 'asked' to play to tonight then he certainly didn't look like it at times... Ok, 3 goals is great, however, he looked very lazy tonight, IMO... Didn't seem to 'want' to get involved for large spells... more pointing that wanting to be 'the man' to get it...

Regardless... a decent run out and well supported considering... Think Wilson put maybe 500 odd on the gate tho...
