Howe: Fourth substitution a great idea

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is in favour of a regulation change which enables managers to make a fourth substitute in extra time of cup competitions.

The idea was first trialled in South America's Copa America competition in 2016 before being introduced into England`s two domestic cup competitions for the first time last season.

During the 2016/17 campaign it was only permitted during the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of the FA Cup and latter stages of the EFL Cup.

However from this season it has been allowed during the earlier rounds.

United States of America international Emerson Hyndman made history for the Cherries when he replaced Ryan Fraser during the extra time victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the EFL Cup.

He became AFC Bournemouth's first ever fourth substitute.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"I would like as many subs as I can have because it gives you the ability to change games and bring on fresh players and fresh legs.

"I think it is a really good rule and I have to give the authorities the credit they deserve. I think it is very healthy for extra-time.

"A lot of the time you forget the demands on the players. In extra-time, we have seen players go down with cramp.

"They can severely damage and injure themselves while playing through that so having the ability to make that extra sub is very welcome and a great idea."

Like others I get the blue circle of death which appears to halt everything. But I did discover, at that stage in the process, you get about 0.2 of a second to click on the 'buy' tab or whatever it is before the blue circle appears, so if you are quick, you get in there ok
I love these Tinpot quirks
