Stanislas edges closer to return

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe believes that attacker Junior Stanislas could soon return to action.

Stanislas ended last season by going under the knife to cure a persistent hernia problem, but has since struggled with groin and hip pain.

He has missed pre-season, but is slowly picking up his rehabilitation work.

Once fit, the Dean Court faithful will be keen to see Stanislas enjoy an injury free campaign.

Stanislas featured in 21 Premier League games (18 starts), scoring 7 goals and making 5 assists last season.

Only Adam Smith and Ryan Fraser could match Stanislas' assists statistics last season, however both players featured more during the season.

Smith played over double the amount of minutes as Stanislas (3099 in comparison to 1476) and Fraser played 293 minutes more.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

'Junior is doing well. We're pleased with him, he is working extremely hard.

'He is doing a lot of his work with Callum (Wilson) at the moment. They are at similar levels in terms of building up their fitness before they come back into the group to train.

'Junior will eventually overtake Callum because of the length of time Callum has been out (Wilson underwent surgery in February).

'I don't see Junior being a long-term problem for us. He has been really put through his paces with the sport scientist so we're confident the injury has been dealt with and now it's just a case of getting him fit.'
