Smith: Dream is to play for England

AFC Bournemouth right back Adam Smith is targeting a place in the England squad this season.

Since his permanent move to the south coast, Smith has made 113 appearances for the Cherries and despite playing a bit part role in the sides promotion from the Championship, he has since established himself as the clubs first choice right back in the Premier League.

After signing a new contract at Dean Court over the summer, Smith is hoping that a consistent run of performances could put him on Gareth Southgate's radar for a call up to the full international squad.

England face Malta and Slovakia in September as part of their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Smith told the Daily Echo...

"It has been a dream of mine since I was young and playing for England is the next thing for me...

"...It is going to be difficult because there are a lot of young English full-backs. But I feel if I perform then I will be up there.

"I just need to play games on a consistent basis and perform well. I feel like I have to do a little bit extra playing for Bournemouth because the England full-backs are playing for the big teams.

"I feel I have to do something special but if I perform well consistently then hopefully I will get recognised."
