Cherries complete youth team reshuffle

AFC Bournemouth have completed a reshuffle of their backroom staff involved in the youth team set-up.

The changes began in February when AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe promoted development coach Stephen Purches to his first team back room staff.

This move saw former AFC Bournemouth midfielder Mark Molesley takeover the AFC Bournemouth development squad following his role since August 2015 as an Under 15's academy coach.

In April, AFC Bournemouth academy manager Joe Roach announced he would be leaving the Cherries at the end of the season.

It has now since been confirmed by that Roach will remain with AFC Bournemouth with a brief statement saying...

'Roach was due to leave the club at the end of the 2016/17 campaign but the long-serving coach will now stay in his post to ensure the Academy continues to progress in line with the club`s aims and ambitions.'

Mark Molesley however will change roles as he will now become assistant manager of the Under 21's (development squad), a role he will hold concurrently with being manager of Southern League Premier Division side Weymouth.

Former AFC Bournemouth captain Carl Fletcher has been named as AFC Bournemouth's new Under 21's manager, leaving his role as Under 18's boss.

'Baby Fletch' told

"I have a strong affiliation with the club and I`m delighted to take on the role, It`s great for my development to come into the role and try to become a better coach. I was with the under-18s for three years and feel I did well.

"I`m looking forward to the different challenges the role will bring and to increase the development of the players going forwards.

Former AFC Bournemouth striker Alan Connell fills the role of AFC Bournemouth Under 18's manager after a spell as a coach within the Cherries academy.

Connell told

"I`ve had a long association with the club and it`s a real honour to take on this position. It means a lot to me and I will work 24/7 to be successful with the players at under-18 level."
