L.Cook: Hopefully I can get a chance

AFC Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook is hopeful he can be the one to benefit from the unfortunate injury to Arsenal loanee Jack Wilshere.

Cook joined AFC Bournemouth in the summer at the age of 19 having already made 85 appearances for Leeds United and breaking through to the England Under 19's set up.

As one of the Football League's most promising youngsters, he joined AFC Bournemouth for an undisclosed fee, reported to include a £6million initial fee rising to a possible £10million after add-ons.

He made his debut on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, as he was named in the starting XI against Manchester United.

However injury niggles have disrupted his campaign and he hadn't featured in the Premier League prior to his second half cameo at Tottenham on Saturday, since he damaged his ankle whilst on international duty with England's under 20's side in October 2016.

Overall he has played just 115 minutes of Premier League football this season, but with injuries to both Andrew Surman and Jack Wilshere likely to see both miss the remainder of the season and Dan Gosling also sidelined, Cook maybe handed the chance he has been pushing for.

Lewis Cook told the Daily Echo...

'...The manager helps me in training all the time. He tells me what he wants me to do and how I can improve.

'I am thankful to him for that and feel I have improved a lot. Hopefully, I can get the chance to demonstrate that in matches now...'

'...I feel part of the squad and just have to be positive. I take the positives out of training every day, work as hard as I can and enjoy it - that is not going to change.

'We have another big game coming up against Middlesbrough on Saturday, so we will analyse what happened against Spurs and then move onto that one...

Your Say...

Given Wilshere and Surman are out for the season and Gosling is nursing a knock, there's a reasonable chance Lewis Cook will end up starting a match before the season is out. We'll still need a CM option on the bench though. Who is the most likely CM candidate from reserve/youth team at the moment? - Join the conversation here.
