Howe: Francis deserved new contract

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was pleased to agree a new contract with right back Simon Francis.

The 29 year old's current contract wasn't set to expire until the summer of 2016, however following an excellent season in the Championship during the last campaign and summer interest from Championship rivals Derby County, the Cherries offered Francis a new contract to extend his stay at Dean Court until the end of the 2016/17 season.

Cherries manager Eddie Howe believes that Francis deserved an improved contract following his consistent performances on the pitch as well as his attitude off it.

Howe told afcb.co.uk...

"We are pleased to offer Simon a new contract, I think his performances, and the consistency of his performances, really deserve that.

"He was very, very good last year and he has made a very good start to this season as well. We are delighted to offer him fresh terms and for him to commit his future to us...'

"...I think from our perspective we are always looking at good professionals - if they conduct themselves in the right manner, people that show good attitude whether they`re in the team or out the team, winning or losing.

"I think Simon has shown all those aspects of his personality. I`ve loved working with him since I`ve come back to the club.
