Howe: Waiting on Camp injury

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has admitted that the club are waiting to discover the extent of Lee Camp's injury.

The Cherries first choice goalkeeper is yet to make an appearance during pre-season after struggling with a niggling injury.

Second choice 'keeper Ryan Allsop is on a half season loan with Coventry City so he is unavailable to recall back to Dean Court, whilst veteran shotstopper Darryl Flahavan has also struggled with injury and hasn't featured in recent weeks.

That has left Cherries development squad 'keeper Benji Buchel in goal, including the full 90 minutes against Premier League side Southampton on Friday night.

However, despite the lack of games Howe would have no hesitation in selecting Camp to play once he returns from injury.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"We are waiting to find out the exact extent of his injury. We don`t believe it to be serious but it has niggled on for a couple of weeks longer than we had hoped.

"I don`t think pre-season is as important for a goalkeeper as it is for outfield players. Lee knows how we play and is a fit lad. He looks after himself and is a very good professional so I would have no problems playing him with no training. From that perspective, it is fine and it is just a case of making sure his thigh is right."

Possibly our most important player let's hope he is ready for the start of the season. He never put a foot wrong all last season and gained us many, many points through his endevours. With Allsop away I am not too confident of having Flahavan in goal and Buchal needs a LOT more experience before being a Championship keeper. Lee is the rock on which the team is based so hopefully we will see him on day 1.
