Elphick: We can build on last year

AFC Bournemouth captain Tommy Elphick is hopeful the Cherries can enjoy a good pre-season ahead of the new Championship campaign.

The Cherries squad are currently part way through a five day training camp in Austria which will see the side kick off their pre-season preparation with Danish side FC Copenhagen in a friendly on Friday.

The AFC Bournemouth squad will then return to England for a full campaign of pre-season games before kicking off the new Championship season next month.

Last season AFC Bournemouth struggled in the early part of the season, conceding eleven goals from their opening two away games at Watford and Huddersfield.

This season, Elphick believes the squad has no excuses and wants the side to build on last seasons end of the campaign which saw the side finish tenth, breaking a club record for the highest finish in the second tier of English football.

Elphick told afcb.co.uk...

"No one let themselves down by coming back unfit or anything like that, We always talk about the dedication and professionalism of this squad and that`s been shown again in the last week or so.

"But that`s what we needed because we need to start pre-season and the season well.

"We had a few harsh lessons at the start of the last season and we can`t allow that to be the case this year.

"We won`t have any excuses. We know the league and have all played enough games at this level to build on last year."
