Howe: Cook should aim for the very highest level

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has backed central defender Steve Cook to aim for the highest level.

The 23 year old pledged his immediate future to AFC Bournemouth by signing a new three year contract at Dean Court earlier this week.

Cook had enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Championship for the Cherries, making 40 appearances alongside both captain Tommy Elphick and the more experienced Elliott Ward.

The Cherries went on to set a new club record finish in the second tier of English football with a tenth place finish, whilst Cook appeared to gain admirers from not only other Championship clubs but also Premier League outfits.

Howe believes that Cook should aim for the highest level within the game and backs him to continue his form from last season.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"Cookie should aim for the very highest level in the game.

"I think there`s so much more scope for him to improve. He`s got all the attributes - he`s a very good footballer, he`s athletic, he reads the game well and I think with more experience he can really flourish...'

'...I thought Cookie had a very good season last year, his first year in the Championship. Centre-half is probably the most difficult position to play for young players and I thought he excelled.

"I`m sure if he carries on in the same vein of form then he`s got a very good career in front of him, and who knows where it could take him?"
