Grabban: They are just rumours

AFC Bournemouth striker Lewis Grabban has played down transfer speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League.

Last month Premier League side Crystal Palace were linked with a 3million move for Cherries leading goalscorer, whilst Championship rivals Middlesbrough have also been rumoured to be interested.

The 26 year old was a former Crystal Palace trainee but left Selhurst Park for Millwall in January 2008 for a fee in the region of 150,000.

Grabban made 70 appearances for Millwall between 2008 and 2011, scoring 11 goals.

After several loan moves to Brentford, he eventually joined Rotherham United on a free transfer, where he scored 18 goals in League Two earning his 300,000 move to Dean Court.

The following season he scored 13 goals in League One to help the side to automatic promotion.

This season he has taken to England's second tier well and immediately hit the ground running.

The Cherries striker finished the season as the Championships fourth highest goalscorer this season, on 22 goals with Watford's Troy Deeney finishing on 24, one behind Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes and four behind Leeds United captain Ross McCormack.

However that record has seen other clubs take notice and Grabban was linked with a 1million move to Brighton & Hove Albion in January, after the play-off hopefuls triggered a release clause in his contract. Grabban held talks with Brighton over a potential move before agreeing a new three and a half year deal at Dean Court.

Media reports have suggested that when Grabban signed his new contract a new 3million minimum transfer release clause was written into his contract.

Grabban told the Daily Echo...

"The thing with speculation is you never know if it is true or not. If teams from the Premier League are interested in me then that is flattering.

"As a player, it is a compliment to be linked with other clubs.

'Everyone has ambitions to play in the Premier League, I think it is the same for every footballer but at the moment they are just rumours."

Surely the best thing for any of our players to do is keep quiet, sounds a bit like LG is touting himself in a strange sort of way?

Can't really blame him+us inserting a 3m clause speaks volumes. Start a bidding war-get 4m for him plus maybe 5m from the Lallana deal+start paying off this debt-we still don't even own our ground so will always be vulnerable.
