Howe: Hughes would complement what we have

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is keen to add former Cherries midfielder Richard Hughes to his backroom staff.

Richard Hughes returned to Dean Court as a 33 year old after ten years and two months after leaving for Portsmouth in June 2002.

The Scottish midfielder made 154 appearances for the Cherries before spending the next 9 years at Fratton Park, playing 165 games.

The midfielder went on to make an additional 31 appearances for the Cherries over the following two seasons, with one of his eight starts coming in the Championship last season.

After announcing his retirement from playing, Howe has made the move to add Hughes to his backroom team, with a full time roll in scouting and team analysis.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"I feel we have a really good backroom team and he would complement what we have.

"He has a bright brain, great views on the game and he is a real innovator.

"He is another AFC Bournemouth person through and through and a real supporter of the football club. If we could persuade him to stay involved with us, I think it would be a really positive addition."
