Howe: Thankfully we got the win

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was pleased with victory away to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

AFC Bournemouth took all three points with their second consecutive away win.

Cherries winger Matt Ritchie opened the scoring for the visitors after just ten minutes, while leading AFC Bournemouth scorer Lewis Grabban doubled the lead just before the half an hour mark.

Eddie Howe's side controlled the match for the majority of the encounter, however a slip up from 'keeper Lee Camp, defender Elliott Ward and left back Charlie Daniels allowed the home side back into the game.

Following Maghoma's goal, Sheffield Wednesday threatened to find an unjust equaliser during the final ten minutes of the match, but the Cherries held on to take the points.

AFC Bournemouth go into Christmas in 15th place in the Championship, nine points off the play-off places and eight points clear of relegation.

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told Sky Sports News...

'It was a nervy ending to the game when really it was frustrating, because I think that's now probably the fourth or fifth game in a row where we have defended well and we haven't picked up the clean sheet that we deserve, but hopefully that's the next stage for us and the next progression.

'We certainly look good in attack in the first half and caused them plenty of problems.

'We feel we've been playing very well, last week against Birmingham we couldn't believe we didn't win the game and we played well against Queens Park Rangers in defeat, so we feel the performances have been good but the results haven't quite matched that, but thankfully today we got the win.

I agree with everything EH says here, performances have been getting stronger and stronger but we have just failed to convert these to goals and points. Sheffield Wednesday were shocking, but this does not detract from our win today. Improvement seemed to coincide with Richie coming back and Rantie put on the bench, letting Grabban take over. A strong correlation but not necessarily the causation of improvements perhaps. Well done to all, from the 300 strong who made the trip today, to lads who worked so hard.

Sadly I couldn't get there, someone has to work over the weekend to pay for Santa's presents lol! Good to hear of this result, doesn't matter how we played we had the maturity in the team today to see it out and take the 3 precious points. I think that's all we need this season, now let's see how we get on against Yeovil Town. We appear to have better form at the moment than most in the league. So fingers crossed to a very happy Christmas! Hey could we hope for a cup run? Now that would be fun! Agreed re the 300 warriors well done you brave guys and gals! It's usually very cold up there this time of the year.....
