'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Howe: Demin mirrors my philosophy

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe believes that he will receive the backing from Russian owner Maxim Demin to make moves in the January transfer window.

Since earning promotion from League One to the Championship in April, the Cherries have only brought in one player on a transfer fee. Cherries club record signing Tokelo Rantie.

Whilst Elliott Ward, Ian Harte and Mohamed Coulibaly also joined the squad over the summer they were all on free transfers, with Andrew Surman, Stephen Henderson, Lee Camp and Jack Collison added to the squad on loan deals.

Howe isn't certain how much financial backing he will be given, but admits that he has in mind the type of player that he would like to target to improve the squad.

Howe told BBC Radio Solent...

'...There are funds, but how much is a difficult question to answer.'

'We have priority positions, It's an ongoing process because every window is different and you get a couple of injuries and it throws up different problems for you.

'But we have the type of player in mind to improve. Things change, targets change, you have to be flexible...'

'...Max (Demin) has been very good. He is a football man and likes his team to play a certain way and share our ethos, He wants to build a club. It's not just concerned with short-term success. All those things mirror my philosophy.'

I'm sure Demin's pot is not limitless, so some astute signings would be welcome. Rather than "record signings" again, I would like to see some players with experience, intelligence and with a team ethos. We all know we need a "head" up front, so I guess that is at the top of the shopping list.

Whoever we sign he should be strong, over 6 foot and capable of heading a ball. No more midgets!
