Howe: Starting to bring players through

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is hopeful that the Dean Court conveyor belt will see a new crop of youngsters break through to the first team.

In the past the Cherries have seen a regular stream of players breaking through from the youth team to establish themselves in the first team squad.

The most recent examples have of course been Brett Pitman, Josh McQuoid and Danny Ings. Whilst Jayden Stockley, Josh Carmichael and Josh Wakefield have also earned first team appearances from working their way through the youth and development squads.

Since promotion to the second tier of English football, making that step up into the Cherries first team has been that much harder, which has seen Stockley go out on loan to League One club Leyton Orient and League Two side Torquay United.

But Howe believes that there is still a lot of talent itching to break through, with the FA Youth Cup match against Hereford United at Dean Court on 19th December, 7pm kick off, providing an excellent platform.

Howe told afcb.co.uk...

"In an ideal world, the youth team would be your first port of call if you had an injury or a suspension, I would love to see us produce players like we did in days gone by. Back when we were in League Two and League One, people like Brett Pitman and Danny Ings were the lifeblood of the team.

"It`s difficult now because we are a Championship club and the demands are that much greater on the players.

"But I have seen a lot of talent in the youth team and the development squad, so hopefully we are starting again and will be bringing players through."
