Matthews: 2013 went really well

AFC Bournemouth development squad member Sam Matthews is looking forward to getting back amongst the first team squad following an injury.

The 16 year old burst on to the scene during pre-season and received high praise from Cherries manager Eddie Howe after signing a new contract.

He was involved in the squad during pre-season and played against Real Madrid during the celebratory exhibition match in July.

Unfortunately he then suffered an injury which has forced him out of contention for recent development squad matches, but Matthews is keen to continue his progress going into next year.

Matthews told afcb.co.uk...

"I was really pleased with how things went in the summer. I was playing in pre-season games and enjoying it, It was a massive moment for me signing my contract because it settled me down. Around the same time, I was training with the first team squad and it meant I didn`t have to worry about my contract.

"I was just able to focus on training and learning as much as I could from the players and Eddie (Howe) and Jason (Tindall)...'

'...I just want to get back to what I was doing before because 2013 went really well for me. I hope next year will be the same and I can keep on improving."
