Howe: We did everything but score

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe thought his side were excellent despite being on the wrong side of a 2-0 scoreline with Birmingham.

Barely three minutes into the game and the Cherries were hit by a poor goal with Steve Cook caught out of position. Birmingham played the ball out to their right and Andrew Shinnie tucked away the cross beyond Lee Camp.

AFC Bournemouth went on to dominate the possession and create plenty of chances, but a combination of Darren Randolph in the away sides goal, a well drilled defence and some good luck prevented the Cherries from getting back into the game.

Nikola Zigic then scored a second for the visitors after 35 minutes, giving Eddie Howe's side an uphill challenge to salvage anything from the game.

The second half was a dominant display from the home side with second half substitute Tokelo Rantie coming the closest to beating Randolph, but his header was well saved by the 'keeper.

Howe told BBC Radio Solent...

'It is difficult to sum up as I thought we were excellent.

'We were on a high going into the game and but for the early goal I thought we would have won the game comfortably.

'We did everything but score and were the most dominant team. I wouldn't change much about the performance, the level was very high. If we give that performance on average over 10 games we will probably win nine of them.'

.....What?

We will only win from luck if we play like that. It's like we haven't planned anything when it comes to attacking teams. No one really knows what they're doing in front of goal. We do all the hard work & it's the same story every week. We're no stoke so why we spend most of our time going out wide I don't know. When going direct it's like no one wants to take the glory. Just shoot!

But I got to mention that Randolph is a quality keeper so wasn't expecting a great deal of luck.

...get in a forwards coach Eddie!
