Cherries Away Days - Reading

Ahead of AFC Bournemouth's trip to Reading for Saturday's Championship clash, AFCB Vital spoke to Josh from Vital Reading to give us a little preview of what to expect.

Any tips on getting to and from the ground?

I`d probably advise to not park in the designated stadium car park, as it can take quite a while to get out of once the match has finished. There are a fair few separate car parks around the area, mainly around where the car dealerships are round by the A33. However, the one that springs to mind is the old grey hound track which take a number of cars on match days - just make sure you follow signs for the town centre and you should see it on your lift.

If you are coming by train, you are probably better off getting the bus or a taxi to the ground, unless you fancy a 3 mile walk, which I wouldn`t recommend in the current weather!

Where are the best places for a pre-match drink for away supporters?

Annoyingly enough, we don`t really have any pubs within a good mile or two from the ground. If you coming in from Reading train station, there is a pub called The Three Guineas right outside the station, which is a decent boozer. There is a pub called the Three Mile cross about two miles from the ground, but probably isn`t best advised to walk it, you will need a designated driver.

For those who haven't been before, what's your ground like for away supporters?

It`s a decent modern ground, but not the best in terms of atmosphere. The quality of food and drink has been praised by some supporters in the past, despite the high prices. Alcohol is also served. The stewarding has always been quite laid back from what I`ve heard, so you will probably get away with standing most of the game.

Who is your player to watch?

Our most exciting player this season has probably been Garath McCleary for his direct approach to taking on players at pace, but unfortunately can go missing in some games. Our most consistent performers have probably been goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and striker Pavel Pogrebnyak, who is starting to show the quality that has seen him play in the Champions League in his career.

Do you have any injury concerns ahead of the game?

Yes, quite a few! Injuries have been the blight of our season, which has meant we have struggled for consistency in our line ups this season. Sean Morrison picked up a knee injury in training two weeks ago, while Wayne Bridge recently had an operation, meaning both will miss out. Jason Roberts and Mikele Leigertwood haven`t played any football yet this season and are still far away from full fitness.

Jem Karacan will still be out for a few more months, while his replacement Chris Baird picked up a sprained ankle last week. Royston Drenthe has missed the past two months of games with injury, but was named on the bench on Tuesday. Danny Williams, who has recently returned from injury, had to be brought off against Charlton and could miss the game.

What are your predictions for this game and the season?

We were far from convincing in our win against Charlton, but our home form is very good at the moment. You will provide a bigger test than Charlton, but I think we have to and will improve our performance, that should sneak us through this game with a 2-1 win.
