Howe: Pitman has worked hard in training

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has praised striker Brett Pitman for his work in training and his performance against Burnley.

The Cherries striker had been dropped from the starting eleven in recent weeks, having been handed a watching brief from the substitutes bench while Tokelo Rantie and Lewis Grabban were handed the places in the starting line up.

At Burnley however, Howe handed all three strikers a chance with Lewis Grabban asked to play a deeper wider role out on the right wing.

With Grabban working virtually as a winger, this left Pitman to play the deeper, number ten role which brought him so much success last season and he arguably put in a man of the match performance.

As well as winning the important flick on to set Tokelo Rantie up for his stunning first goal in English football, he also had a goal saving bicycle kick virtually off of the line.

Howe told afcb.co.uk...

'...He has been working really hard over the last three or four weeks. He really has put a lot of hard work in in training and I think that hard work was rewarded with a really good team performance from him at Burnley.

"He led the line really well and closed down at every opportunity and filled in for players when they rotated positions.

"It`s very much a team game and you have to not only think of yourself and your own performances, but think of the team and try and help your team mates and to try and be unselfish in your play.

"He has certainly been a goal creator for us this year as he was last Saturday by winning an important flick on for TK to get on the end of. That was really good to see...'
