AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe believes last seasons success with the Cherries would have made his late mother proud.
The 12th October is the date that Eddie Howe celebrates one year back at Dean Court.
During two spells as manager of AFC Bournemouth, Howe has now achieved the Greatest Escape, avoiding relegation from the Football League despite a 17 point points penalty, achieved automatic promotion to League One despite a 16 month transfer embargo and won promotion to the second tier of English football for only the second time in the clubs entire history.
But the success of the last twelve months only came about due to Howe's difficult decision to leave Burnley to return to the south coast.
Howe would have firmly believed that he was only part way through the job with Burnley, after spending the last 21 months rebuilding the club and setting up new foundations following the clubs fall from the Premier League.
But following the passing of his mother Annie, Howe opted to leave Burnley for personal reasons and have a second stint with the Cherries.
Howe told afcb.co.uk...
"I discussed the decision with my wife, but apart from that I only spoke to a couple of trusted friends, There were a few people who trotted out the usual clichés, 'Don`t go back` and 'Why would you potentially ruin the reputation that you had?` I know my mum, who is no longer with us, would have said don`t go back because she was a firm believer in looking forward.
"So she probably would have been looking down, thinking 'What are you doing?` But I`m pleased to say now that it was the right decision.
"The minute I came back I think she would have said it was the right decision. She would have wanted me close to the family, so she would have been very supportive of that. To see the success the team has had would have filled her with great pride."
